Services offered to the residents by the Local Council:
The tasks of the Local Council are varied and, when one considers that the Local Council has been in function for only a few years, these are quite numerous.
These functions include:
The Naxxar Local Council is also responsible for the social, cultural and educational aspect of the locality. Therefore, the Local Council organises:
Other services offered by the Naxxar Local Council to the residents through its administration are:
The fact that all these payments can be done at the Local Council offices offers the public a much better service and saves one from rushing from one Departmental office to the other.
It is also a fact that the public transport which runs all around the locality is a unique thing for the Maltese Islands and is very appreciated by all those who regularly make use of it, most especially those residents who live on the outer verges of the locality. It is interesting to note that this service, which has been operating since 1995, is offered free of charge and serves as a link between those living on the border and the Naxxar centre. In summer, this service also caters for those persons wishing to go to Ghadira Bay and back.
The Naxxar Local Council firmly believes in the need to keep a direct contact with the residents because only in this way can one keep abreast with what is happening in the locality and recognise the needs and requests of the residents. Therefore, apart from opening its offices daily for the benefit of the residents, nowadays the Local Council is equipped with a computerised system so that complaints and suggestions can be dealt with in a more efficient way.
Undoubtedly, the Local Council keeps a regular contact with the residents by means of the numerous newspapers, flyers and circulars which are delivered door to door.
A direct contact with the residents is also held yearly between February and March, where all the residents of the Naxxar locality are invited to attend the Annual Locality Meeting where all those present have the faculty to pass on any complaints, suggestions and opinions directly to the Council Members.
Those needs and problems which are not the direct responsibility of the Local Council are not forgotten by this Council, but, wherever possible, letters are sent out on behalf of the residents and meetings are held with various Ministers and Departmental Heads.
The most recent service is that of local enforcement by means of Local Wardens, wherein the Local Council hires the services of a Warden to monitor the routes pre-established by the same Council.
